Luton Tory Candidates at the Conservative Spring Conference
Sunday, February 28, 2010

Jeremy Brier and Nigel Huddleston took a short break from canvassing and headed to the Conservative Spring Forum in Brighton this weekend.
They watched David Cameron set out his Vision for Britain in a speech with a 'Let's win it for Britain' theme.

Speaking without notes David Cameron explained why the coming election was a chance to vote for change - not five more years of Gordon Brown's tired government making things worse.
In calling on supporters to "win it for Britain", he outlined his vision of a country that feels like a community with a Conservative Government on the side of those who do the right thing.
On the economy he spelt out the need to act sooner and quicker than Labour on the deficit. On the society he set out the radical nature of our education reforms - how we will improve all schools so every parent can send their child to a good school.

On the family he emphasised once more that we want Britain to be "the most family-friendly country in Europe", including a commitment to recognise marriage in the tax system. And on politics he set out the need for radical policies to restore trust in the political system and give more power to people.
He said of the election: "It is an election we have to win because our country is in a complete mess, and it is our patriotic duty to turn it around and give this country a better future."

Nigel met up with many senior members of the party and had the opportunity to talk to Ken Clarke again about the latest news on GM at the 35th Birthday celebrations of the Tory Reform Group (the ‘One Nation', wing of the party which Ken Clarke is the President of and Nigel is on the Board). Nigel also spent time with Lord Trimble, and with representatives from the National Federation of Retail Newsagents - who have many members in Luton.

Nigel Huddleston said:
"I left Brighton under no illusion about the scale of the task before us, but also with great confidence in David Cameron's conviction for fulfilling his positive vision for Britain. I must now play my part in ensuring that we win a majority, get Gordon Brown out and David Cameron in - for the good of Luton and the good of the country as a whole."

Jeremy Brier said:
"I was sitting just behind David Cameron on the stage for his speech and I could really see the passion and the drive in his eyes and his body language. He knows, as we do in Luton, that this is going to be a tough fight against Gordon Brown and Labour - but we must win it to rescue our economy."
