Vicky Ford, Conservative Party Candidate for the European Parliament officially launched the Election campaign in Luton on Tuesday. Proud Vauxhall owner, Vicky, joined Parliamentary Candidate Nigel Huddleston meeting shop and small business owners in Bury Park and members of the public in the town centre. She also visited the airport – a vital part of the Luton economy to discuss Conservative aviation policy.
Vicky said “Across many other high streets in nearby towns I have seen boarded up shops and closed doors. But in Bury Park I saw a different picture, times are tough but here many businesses are surviving the economic downturn because they work long hours, have sensible financial planning and very loyal customers. We saw people from many different cultural backgrounds working together and trading side by side.
We also heard how hard it is for those who are out of work to find new jobs locally. Businesses large and small are being tied up in red tape by Brussels. We need to stop the unnecessary bureaucracy of the EU but also remember how important our export market is especially for companies like Vauxhall. If we want jobs in Luton, we need to fight for our businesses”.
On Sunday 3rd May, Vicky's fellow conservative MEP candidates, Claire Strong and Jonathan Morgan also attended the rally to campaign against the unwanted development to the East of Luton. They commented that similar local action was being taken across the whole of the region where such unwanted development is being imposed as a result of the government's disastrously misguided regional housebuilding targets policy.
